Toadying to ceremomy leaders limited to once per month?

Yes, they are very high. I've not thought more about it as it's kind of fun that your characters advance. But your point about parties is very good. The ceremonies doesn't really create interaction between PCs the way private parties do.

Does anyone else have thoughts on this? Unless persuaded not to (with good arguments) I will consider limiting toadying to a ceremony leader to once per turn after Sacred Time.

Some characters belong to more than one cult, and anyone can participate in associated cults' ceremonies, so limiting it to "once per ceremony leader" wouldn't change much.

'Once per ceremony leader' would be good, Or perhaps you could say that you do not know in advance who is leading a ceremony; the person available to be toadied may be High Priest/Priest/Assistant Priest/Rune Lord.

I was thinking more of only being able to gain CP's from toadying to a ceremony leader once per month, If you go to more than one ceremony in a month you will only get the CP's for toadying to the highest ranked leader. This will encourage more parties and toadying between characters.

I'm all for leaving the rules unchanged. It's hard to get rises in Cha without these and changing it now would be detrimental to those of us who are double Initiates and already having to spend all our month doing cult duties (even if your character is a God too!).

Yes, Broar, has definitely benefitted by toadying to various Priests but that's effectively all he can do aside from learn cult skills until such time as he is able to rise to a higher cult rank and the penalty from lack of female companionship keeps mounting up! (No pun intended!).

So, there you have it my views / thoughts although I'm prepared to compromise if a special dispensation is given to Chalana Arroy & Lankhor Mhy cultists......you can change the rules for all the others!

Agreed that there should be some change but there should be some benefit from attending more than one ceremony. Maybe second ceremony attended gives a +1 to attempts to cult promotion that month.

A nice way of doing it would be to allow attendees to toady/receive toady to/from each other but not from npcs. You could also restrict eligible ceremonies to holy/high holy days. In this case maybe give the +1 to attempts to cult promotion that month as well as a few CPs.

Maybe also restrict toadying to npcs up to +3 more Charisma than the player character. Or even better not allow toadying to npcs at all but give a higher base cp benefit for attending ceremonies.

Toadying to NPCs is currently advantageous to many because we are low on the social order and poor luck in campaign season mean we don't have any money for consumption or throwing lavish parties. I would be reluctant to see it watered down too substantively when few of us have much hope of advancement by other means. A cha 10 character is only getting 4 points for toadying to a high priest and need 33 to advance rank, so it's not an easy path to high status.

Just checking the rules ... can cult duties be combined with participating in an associated cult's ceremony?

No: "Cult duties can be combined with participating in a ceremony. The ceremony must be at the initiate’s cult’s temple, not at an associated cult’s."

Since above was a bit rambling thought I would make a (hopefully) concise suggestion:-

* Rather than have ceremonies available each week just have ceremonies on holy days/high holy days of each cult.
* Each cult has five holy days and one high holy day each year (one in each Gloranthan season). These should be fixed on the calendar and last a week (a sort of festival).
* There should be opportunities to toady to and receive toadies from other player characters. Limited toadying to NPC ceremony leaders (they will only accept toadying from Initiates or above of CHA not lower than 6 below their CHA).
* Attending a holy day gives a +1 bonus on promotion in that cult if rolling POW or less on 1D6.
* CPs for attending a holy day should be equal to POW

Hopefully this will make cult ceremonies a really special occasion!
