War
The caravan arrived in Boldhome at twilight, the pennants of the Sartarite armies fluttering in the mountain winds. The people of the city gathered in the Great Square, where the shadows of the Quivin Mountains stretched long over the cobblestones. All awaited news from the campaign—a tale of vengeance and valor carried on the lips of bards and messengers.
At the head of the caravan rode a herald clad in bronze and blue, bearing the seal of King Argrath. Behind him, wagons laden with spoils and banners taken from the Lunar hosts trundled into the city. The murmurs of the crowd turned to cheers as the first bard, a woman with hair like fire, stepped forward to deliver her songs. Beside her, a scribe unrolled a parchment, ready to read the official report.
“By order of King Argrath,” the scribe began, his voice carrying across the hushed square, “the deeds of Sartar’s armies are proclaimed to the free people of the kingdom. In this campaign, our three armies marched to deliver vengeance upon the Lunars in Tarsh.”
He recounted the bloody victory of the 1st Army under General Esrolvale, who led the assault on Dunstop itself. “Warchief Fionn,” the scribe declared, “whose wisdom guided the general’s hand, is elevated to warchief for his deeds. It was his counsel that turned the siege into a triumph. He is named in the skalds’ songs, and his share of the spoils numbered 1,500 Lunars.”
The tale of the 2nd Army followed. Under General Senrenne’s command, the army swept through the riverlands, severing Lunar supply lines and laying waste to fortified villages. “Warlord Afur of the Colymar Cavalry struck fear into the enemy, his riders unstoppable. He is to be considered for a title by the King himself. Among his captains, Lieutenant Warlord Harold distinguished himself, leading a charge that broke Lunar ranks. Both their names are sung, and their efforts brought glory and wealth to the army.”
The deeds of the 3rd Army, led by General Jartip, were recounted next. Though their task was defense, they held their lines against relentless Lunar counterattacks. Warlord Quatlu, marching at the general’s side, was promoted to Warchief for his valor. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Warlord Erik of Mularik’s Company and his battalion commanders, including the indomitable Baroness Ivarenna, earned renown for their steadfast courage.
The scribe continued, naming those who stood out for individual feats of arms. “Among the Free Philosophers, Torben is celebrated for his cunning raids that dismantled Lunar logistics. His share of the spoils, 2,300 Lunars, is well earned, and his name resounds in the bardic halls.”
Then the bard stepped forward, her voice rich and sonorous as she began to sing. The crowd leaned closer, their breaths visible in the cool mountain air. The song wove tales of bravery, sacrifice, and victory:

- Of Warchief Fionn, the silver-tongued strategist, whose wisdom pierced the thickest walls of Dunstop.
- Of Afur, the Warlord of the Colymar, whose cavalry thundered across the plains like a storm.
- Of Harold, who led his riders into the heart of the fray, and scattered the Lunar host like leaves in the wind.
- Of Quatlu, who marched unyielding, his sword a beacon in the dark tides of war.
- Of Erik, whose stalwart command kept the line when the Lunars sought to break it.
- Of Ivarenna, the baroness who held fast and struck down foes with the precision of an eagle.
- Of Torben Dungshovler, the cunning battalion commander, whose deeds sowed chaos among the enemy.
- Of Grumbold, whose counterattack shattered a Lunar ambush, earning him a warlord’s mantle.
- Of Julian, the ten-thane raised to hundred-thane, his blade sharp as the justice of Orlanth himself.
- Of Ararg, whose bravery on the field drew the eyes of the gods, though Boldhome knows him not.
