Particuarly considering it looks like a strong gust of wind could blow him over, so earning fame and fortune at the frontier seems unlikely.

He notes that while shops are inherently unprofitable if nobody spends any money in them, a curious thing happens if the shopkeepers nip round the corner to buy trinkets and comestibles from one another. The natural flow of currency seems to almost miraculously generate profits for everyone involved.

Consider our esteemed Treasurer, Goldgotti. His huge wealth doubtlessly derives from being the head of his enormous extended family, all proud shopheepers.
Shhhh! Just because we have discovered the secret of turning trinkets into gold doesn't mean we should tell everyone.

In any case, who deals in trinkets when you can have high quality axes?

We couldn't possibly all sell high quality axes, or the people who prefer other sharp pointy objects might take offense. Anyway, I'd most likely only drop one on my foot when polishing the blade and cut my toes off.

I will leave such martial commerce to your good self and as soon as I have the necessary time and funds will open an establishment that specialises more in trinkets, fripperies and ornaments. After all, even those who don't have a mother back home expecting their son to send them something modestly priced but elegant every month may have occasion to buy such things to express their devotion to a prospective paramour. If the business is a success, there may in future even be fashionable silk and lacy underthings discreetly available in the back of the shop, but we won't let mother know about those.

Jst recently, the Guild has significantly reduced it's fees, which helped a lot. Now if that Guild rule mandatory sale at a 66% loss could be changed to "can't buy a shop this low if your CHA exceeds..." then new shops become a real option!

Dear Erinestra Harvanasdaughter,

Hail and well met! I was delighted to read that spending money in a shop actually benefits the shop owner in a tangible way. I shall therefore order my conspicuous consumption to be spent at your Emporium this month. I look forward to meeting you and seeing what is available in your large shop. May Issaries bless your endeavors with high profit margins.

Quatlu,

I can well recommend the metal polish, my breastplate has the power to dazzle now I use "Erinestra's Elbow Grease" metal polish, and the oil I bought there has kept both my spear and broadsword nice and sharp. She seems able to get hold of whatever you might need. I, personally, am a very satisfied customer.

Your friend and colleague,

Erik.

Another testimonial from a satisfied customer: Erinestra's weapons really do terrify.

I am glad that other shops are opening up, but I for one will continue to patronize Erinestra's Emporium; why would anyone want to buy anything but weapons and tattoos?

I am so pleased to have so many satisfied customers. In due course, I hope to expand our range even further to include a weapon for every possible occasion.
