1631 - 5 (Middle Fire) - Turn Report

Post by Puckohue »

Midsummer
The days begin with the soft glow of dawn caressing the eastern peaks. The rays of Yelm slowly spill over the jagged horizon, casting golden hues over the stone and thatch dwellings that cling precariously to the mountainsides. The air is crisp and cool, a refreshing respite from the heat that will come. The city wakes gradually; smoke begins to curl from chimneys as breakfast fires are kindled with sacred herbs, filling the air with fragrant smoke that is said to carry prayers to the gods.

Priests and god-talkers of Yelmalio ascend to the highest altars to greet the sun. Their chants, a haunting blend of reverence and power, echo off the stone faces of the mountains, inviting the city to join in the day's first act of worship.

By midday, Boldhome is awash with activity. The marketplaces bustle with traders from across Glorantha. Exotic goods from the far reaches of the world—spices that tingle the senses, fabrics dyed in impossible colors, metals worked with enchantments — are bartered and sold. The air is thick with the languages and laughter of a hundred peoples, a testament to Boldhome's place as a crossroads of cultures.

The heat of the day is mitigated by the mountain's shadow and the cool breezes that dance through the streets. Artisans work in open-air workshops, their hammers and chisels singing songs of creation. Silver jewelry, renowned for its magic and beauty, is crafted with techniques passed down from the gods themselves. Meanwhile, warriors spar on wide platforms, their movements a deadly dance watched by gods and mortals alike, for in Glorantha, the strength of one's arm is as crucial as the potency of one's prayers.

As the sun begins its descent, the city transforms. The heat ebbs, and the air fills with the soft light of lanterns. The people of Boldhome gather in the squares and open spaces, where the night's festivities are about to begin. Musicians with instruments that range from the simple drum and bagpipe to the more exotic creations of the Mostali (dwarfs) fill the air with melodies that have the power to move both heart and mountain.
Feasting tables are laden with the bounty of the earth: breads, cheeses, and meats prepared with herbs and spices that speak of the land's abundance. The wine, brewed from mountain berries and blessed by the goddess Ernalda, flows freely, encouraging even the most reserved to join in the dance.

As night falls, the stories begin. Skalds and storytellers, illuminated by firelight, recount the myths and legends of the gods, of heroes and monsters, of the creation of the world and the great deeds of ancestors. These stories are more than entertainment; they are the living memory of the people, a guide for living and a bridge to the divine.

Trickster’s Summer Feast

The streets of Boldhome were alive with spectacle and mirth this eventful week, as the iconic Clown Tower played host to a summer feast presided over by none other than Elusu the Trickster, a figure renowned for weaving laughter (and some say pain) into every gathering. Among the illustrious attendees were Brear, Erinestra, and Ondurga, each adding their unique flair to the festivities.

Brear's entrance into the revelry was marked by a bold and brazen portrayal of Erik, donning a costume that exaggerated the chieftain's perceived flaws. With a comedic flourish, he sported a garment adorned with a conspicuous yellow stripe symbolizing cowardice, while two whimsical puppets, each contorted into absurd grimaces, adorned his head, mimicking the imagined voices that supposedly haunt Erik's conscience.

In stark contrast, Erinestra's attire defied convention, as she draped herself in a garment fashioned entirely from axes, a daring sartorial statement that embodied her fierce independence and entrepreneurial spirit. Accompanied by the steadfast Arng, she seized the opportunity to promote her emporium, generously offering discounts to her fellow revelers. However, her adventurous spirit waned when faced with the high stakes of the gaming tables, demurring from participation upon realizing the exorbitant minimum bet required.

Ondurga, embodying the essence of whimsy, embraced the tradition of the clown with gusto, bedecked in a traditional, brightly-colored ensemble that accentuated her jovial demeanor. As the feast progressed and libations flowed freely, she surrendered herself to the intoxicating spirit of the occasion, her laughter ringing out in harmony with the merry chorus of her companions.

Among this trio of performers, Brear's comedic antics garnered the most acclaim, eliciting raucous laughter and applause from the assembled throng. Though he may not have claimed the coveted first prize, his spirited portrayal ensured that his presence would be remembered long after the festivities had drawn to a close.

Week 3

Serbitar sought solace and connection within the confines of the temple devoted to Uleria, where the gentle embrace of intimate companionship awaited, offering respite from the tumult of the world outside.

Agis, driven by a relentless pursuit of mastery, honed his skills in the art of the broadsword within the halls of the temple dedicated to Orlanth, each strike a testament to his unwavering dedication and resolve.

Brear, ever eager to curry favor with the divine, participated in a solemn ceremony at the temple of Chalana Arroy, bowing low before the Priest with deferential gestures of reverence, seeking blessings and guidance in the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment.

Meanwhile, Fionn dutifully assumed the role of assistant at the esteemed Military Academy, aiding in the instruction and training of aspiring warriors, his commitment to the martial arts evident in every gesture and instruction. Erinestra diligently tended to the needs of her bustling emporium, ensuring that each customer received the utmost care and attention, her entrepreneurial spirit driving her to excel in the realm of commerce. And Ondurga, with unwavering dedication, applied herself to the tasks entrusted to her at Lt Warlord Erik's Queensgift.

Week 4

Fionn's valor and resolve (and a bag of money) earned him a distinguished position within the esteemed Free Philosophers regiment, where he proudly acquired the prestigious title of Hundred-thane, along with a gallant steed to accompany him into battle. Yet, with his newfound responsibilities, the need for a third horse loomed on the horizon, a testament to the demands of his noble calling.

Serbitar, in a gesture of conviviality and camaraderie, hosted a lively gathering at Fantarn’s, where merriment and revelry flowed as freely as the ale. Joined by Ondurga, the two embraced the spirit of celebration with unbridled enthusiasm, ensuring that laughter echoed through the halls long into the night.

Meanwhile, Agis dedicated himself to the relentless pursuit of martial prowess within the precincts of the temple to Orlanth. At the same time, Erinestra embarked on a journey to her familial homelands in the Locaem lands, accompanied by the steadfast Arng and a cart laden with axes, a symbol of her indomitable spirit and connection to her roots.

The Front

With the town of Slavewall firmly ensconced under the dominion of Sartarite forces, the 1st Army orchestrated a strategic repositioning of its field operations, drawing closer to Goldedge. Concurrently, the 3rd Army, undeterred by past setbacks, embarked on a renewed endeavor to lay siege upon the coveted township. Their 2nd Army moved southward and established formidable defensive fortifications encircling the town of Bagnot, to thwart any Lunar incursions aimed at reclaiming the contested territory.

1st Army
The 1st Army crushed the enemy and cleared the area around Goldedge from enemy troops. The Army Adjutant, Warlord Rastanast Salionathson (M) of the Royal Foot Guards, was promoted.

Cavalry Division
The Cavalry Division’s outcome was inconclusive. In spite of this, the Division Commander Lt General Jarnaris Onelsasdaughter (Balm) and her Adjutant, Vinkalva Minarmsdaughter (V), Lt Warlord of Tosti’s Company, were promoted.

Heavy Brigade
The brigade drove the enemy from the field at the cost of both the Brigadier’s life, and the life of her (newly appointed) Brigade-thane.
  • Twin Spears
The Twin Spears lacked proper leadership and were driven from the field. Due to fatalities there is now a new leadership, but a lack of junior officers.
  • Fellowship of Death
It was the Humakti who saved the day for the brigade, relentlessly driving the enemy from the field.
Cavalry Brigade
The outcome was inconclusive. Brigade-thane Afur was promoted to Lt Warlord of the Colymar Cavalry (and thus lost the position as Brigade-thane). He returned to his regiment carrying hundreds of Lunars worth of loot.
  • Colymar Cavalry
Thane Harold served as acting Ten-thane due to vacancies. The enemy was driven from the field. The Warlord was promoted. Harold was promoted to Ten-thane and mentioned in battlesongs. Regimental Adjutant Julian captured an enemy officer and received a hefty ransom.
  • Tosti’s Company
Tosti’s Company’s contribution was inconclusive. The only officer to survive was the Aide to the Trickster, Havula Carasraisdaughter (Balm). Not only did she survive, she was also promoted to Hundred-thane (and thus lost the appointment).
Guards Brigade
The Guards Brigade crushed the enemy. The Brigadier was promoted.
  • Royal Foot Guards
The Royal Foot Guards didn’t exactly shine, although they did nothing especially wrong. The acting commander was killed. Hundred-thane Quatlu, acting as Lt Warlord, was noted for his bravery. He was promoted to Lt Warlord, mentioned in battlesongs, and the receiver of a bag of loot. Ten-thane Grumbold also managed to lay his hand on some loot.
  • Mularik’s Company
Under the leadership of Warlord Baron Rufus the regiment drove the enemy from the field. His personal bravery was mentioned in battlesongs. So was Regimental Adjutant Ten-thane Ivarenna, who also got a promotion to Hundred-thane (and thus is no longer the Regimental Adjutant). Lt Warlord Erik found loot.

1st Division
The 1st Division scattered the enemy by sortie. Sadly, both the Division Commander and her adjutant were killed in action.

2nd Brigade
The overall result of the 2nd Brigade of Foot was inconclusive.
  • Goldgotti’s Company
The regiment fell to a storming party. Losses were high, and there is a desperate need for officers.
  • Free Men
The Free Men also eventually fell to a storming party.
3rd Brigade
The 3rd Brigade broke the enemy by sortie, losing its Brigade-thane in the process.
  • Wolf Runners
The Wolf Runners scattered the enemy by sortie.
  • Thieves’ Arm
The regiment broke the enemy by sortie. The Warlord was killed in action.
2nd Division
The 2nd Division broke the enemy by sortie.

4th Brigade
The 4th Brigade broke the enemy by sortie.
  • Guildsmen
The Guildsmen broke the enemy by sortie, losing the Warlord in the process.
