Hiring Other Player Characters

Post by Quatlu »

Is it permissible to hire another player character, either as a servant or a body guard? If it is allowed, is that process handled in the Pre-Turn section, like hiring a stable boy?

Section 21 of the rules, "Housing", states that
A player character can employ any other player character as a servant, as long as the minimum CHA requirement is met (see below for available positions per house type). There is no additional cost.
I've now added
This is a pre-turn action, and must be ordered by both the employer and the employee.
Of course, this requires that the employer has a house.

All other arrangements between player characters are outside of the rules. You can give Lunars to another character, and they can state in their orders that they work as a servant (or whatever) for you.

Note that the CHA and/or CP loss for high CHA characters doing menial work still applies.

And employing a player character as "brain surgeon" doesn't mean the character has the required skill to actually do any brain surgery. Well, non-fatal that is...

I'll bet Broar would try it.

Give me a chance, I've just got my Chalana Arroy Initiate status to confirm before I can offer such a specialist service. However, thanks to my Lankhor Mhy initiateship I can access lots of medical / healing books so I reckon I can soon pick it up. Is there anyone in specific that you believe requires the surgery, someone with brain problems.......maybe a certain Erik Starkraving? These type of cases don't come cheap, I can give a discount but it's still going to be a few hundred at least because someone like Erik is going to need a lot of work to cure.

Broar,

I would be very happy to practice brain surgery on you, or let you try it on me, with either spear or broadsword. You might never have any worries again! What do you say, we could meet at the Dragon Gate at the start of next month, and you might not run away this time (although I would not bet on it). After all, you are not an initiate of the Blessed Lady, so there is no bar on your duelling.

Erik.

You Erik,

Slippery eel of a fellow, I never issued any challenge and while I may not, quite yet, be an Initiate of Chalana Arroy I am very devoted to her peaceful and non violent philosophy / teachings.

Therefore, you'll not be tricking me to stray away from the true path, delay my Initiateship for 3 months by getting me to fight a pointless duel where we all know I would win anyway.

The Divine Broar formally announces he has NOT issued any duel challenge to Erik!

Really? You talk big but act small. Very well, since you have now withdrawn your implied challenge, I now issue mine.

Erik.
